This is the Academy's plastic model of the P-47D Thunderbolt "Razorback" in 1/72 scale. The P-47 was the first single-seat fighter equipped with a supercharged 2,000 hp engine, capable of flying at the high altitudes characteristic of bombers. The P-47D Thunderbolt, equipped with eight 12.7 mm machine guns, was the main fighter of the US Eighth Air Force at the beginning of the air war over Europe. This model authentically recreates the initial variant of the P-47D, which was nicknamed "Razorback" because of the shape of its upper fuselage behind the cockpit. The P-47D, due to its speed at high altitudes, was very effective as an escort for Allied bombers during attacks on Germany. This kit from Academy includes over 65 transparent and grey plastic parts for faithfully assembling the American P-47D fighter in 1/72 scale.
