F4U-1 Corsair, U.S. Navy Fighter - Academy 12457

The F4U-1 Corsair made history in October of 1940 as the first American fighter plane to reach a speed of 400mph (around 640kph). Exceptional for its powerful 2,000hp engine, awe-inspiring 4m propeller, and inverted gull wings, the Corsair proved to be a monumental achievement among aircraft. The earliest versions of the aircraft were equipped with the "Birdcage", a canopy that lent the aircraft its distinction. The F4U-1 saw operations beginning in February of 1943 and peppered Japanese Zero Fighters with its powerful .50 in machine guns. This Academy kit with over 40 plastic parts faithfully recreates the F4U-1 Corsair in 1/72 scale.
