'The AE86 Levin, launched in May 1983, dared to adopt an FR layout at a time when FF was the norm, and the engine was changed from the previous generation's 2T-G to the newly developed 4A-G. The body variations were two, a 3-door hatchback and a 2-door coupe. The name of the model changed depending on the engine used, with the 4A-G model classified as AE86 and the 1500cc 3A-U model as AE85.
