The P-80 Meteor was the first jet fighter of the United States Army Air Forces. After the formation of the United States Air Force, it was renamed the F-80 and widely used in the Korean War. As one of the world's earliest successful fighter jets to use a turbojet engine, its emergence heralded the beginning of the "jet age" for the air forces of the United States and other countries.
