The P-80 Meteor was the first jet fighter of the United States Army Air Forces. After the formation of the United States Air Force, it was renamed the F-80 and widely used in the Korean War. As one of the world's earliest successful fighter jets to use a turbojet engine, its emergence heralded the beginning of the "jet age" for the air forces of the United States and other countries. Another remarkable achievement was in training new pilots, especially the T-33 trainer variant developed from the Meteor.
