The T29 heavy tank was a heavy tank developed by the United States. The first prototype of the US Army T29 experimental tank was built in October 1947. Because it was originally designed to counter heavy tanks, it had enhanced frontal armor and a long-barreled gun with power comparable to the Tiger II. It was equipped with a 7.62 mm M1919 machine gun on the hull, an M2HB anti-aircraft machine gun on the top, and two M2HB coaxial machine guns. 　　

　　Subsequently, the T29 heavy tank spawned the T30 heavy tank equipped with a powerful 155mm gun and the T34 heavy tank with a 122mm gun, giving the US military heavy tanks that could rival the Soviet IS series tanks. These tanks were the predecessors of the US military's post-war M103 tanks, and could even be considered direct ancestors of the M1 Abrams tank.
