Seventeen 747?s have flown for Air New Zealand. The choice to operate the type came after the sad loss of DC-10 NZP and the subsequent negative publicity of that type. Also the greater capacity of the 747 was becoming more attractive to the airline. This -200 series was delivered new to the airline in June 1982 and served with them until June 1999. It was withdrawn, refurbished and sold to Virgin Atlantic. This model depicts the aircraft in the later Pacific Wave livery.
