History

Meeting the Royal Air Force's need for an efficient medium support helicopter, the Westland Puma HC.1 began service with No.33 Squadron in 1971, marking the first collaboration of its kind between the UK and France. With remarkable speed and manoeuvrability, the Puma could transport 16 passengers, 12 fully equipped soldiers, or two tonnes of cargo, either internally, as an underslung load, or a mix of both. This versatile and dependable helicopter, in its latest version, continues to serve the RAF, more than five decades after the initial units were delivered to RAF Odiham.
