The Astute-class, Britain's next-generation nuclear attack submarine and the world's most stealthy submarine to date, will become the core of the British Navy's future fleet. It possesses powerful attack capabilities, can transport special forces for covert missions, and can support ground military operations in joint offensives. The Astute-class is equipped with the 2076 sonar system, currently the world's most advanced and highly integrated sonar equipment. Its ECS external communication system is the world's most advanced submarine peripheral communication system, making the Astute the first submarine in the world to be equipped with this system. It pioneered the use of computer-generated visual reconnaissance instead of traditional periscopes in submarine manufacturing history. The Astute-class uses Rolls-Royce's RRPWR2 nuclear reactor, with a core life of 25-30 years, ensuring the submarine's full lifespan. Its nuclear-powered pressurized underwater reactor eliminates the need for nuclear power plant replacement during its service life, generating oxygen from seawater and enabling it to circumnavigate the globe while submerged, making it particularly suitable for missions requiring operation in any region of the world. An initial plan was to build four Astute-class submarines, with one already launched.
